Canbra Foods Ltd. Charity Golf Classic

Canbra Foods Ltd., a subsidiary of James Richardson International, producers of our fine Canola Harvest Products® is proud to call Southern Alberta home. Since 1957, Canbra Foods has had a strong presence in the agricultural community and continues to grow our canola-based margarines, oils, sprays, and meal products throughout the world markets. Annually, we process over 360,000 metric tonnes of canola produced throughout Western Canada.

As one of Lethbridge's largest employers, we believe in keeping our community strong, for our employees and their families.  Canbra Foods Ltd. hosts an Annual Charity Golf Classic Tournament each year.  The purpose of the invitational Charity Golf Classic Tournament is to bring suppliers, customers and friends of Canbra Foods Ltd. and James Richardson International together for a day of golf to to raise funds for several important causes in Lethbridge and the surrounding communities.  Our motto that we have adopted is "Growing Our Community".  The golf classic is entering its 18th year of fundraising for our local community and we are proud to have exceeded the significant milestone of $1,115,000 since it’s conception in 1991. This is an invitational tournament attended by several of our suppliers and partners, as well, as a wide span of customers from the Retail, Restaurant/Hospitality, Value-Added Food Processing, Agricultural sectors from across North America, friends of Canbra Foods Ltd. and James Richardson International. With the outstanding support from the many sponsors and golfers, we have been able to assist in supporting over 50 charites and organization that service the Southern Alberta Community.  We can truly say thet we have achieved our vision of “Growing our Community”

Applications are accepted in February of each year, from charities and organizations for "specific projects" at a minimum of $5,000.  We decide who receives the funding by the quality of projects. We specifically look for projects that will be utilized by many people and for a number of years, projects that will "Grow the Community". We do not support administrative/operational cost of organizations.  The chosen community groups must be registered non-profit organizations and are expected to be active volunteers in the organization and running of this event.

The classic has become recognized as one of the premiere Alberta tournaments. We have enjoyed a few special guests along our way to help achieve our success. In 2003, Jason Zuback; Long Drive Champion. In 2004, Cassie Campbell; Olympic Gold Medallist Canadian Women’s Hockey. In 2005, Paul Henderson, who scored the winning goal in the 1972 Canada/Soviet Union ‘Series of the Century’. In 2006 we were again excited to have Jason Zuback return, along with his teammate, Bobby Wilson, Senior Men’s Long Drive Champion as well as Country Music recording artist, Gord Bamford. In 2007, we welcomed two hockey personalities; Dennis Hull and Eddie Shack, who brought an entertaining and unique component to the event classic.

The tournament is a two-day event starting with a Wine & Cheese the night before.  The day of the tournament includes Registration Gifts, Breakfast, Canola Harvest Classic, Drinks / BBQ on the course, Dinner/Reception, and the Canola Harvest Social.
